How is the Medicare program set up?

Medicare is divided into four parts:

    Part A—Hospital Insurance*
    Part B—Medical Insurance*
    Part C—Medicare Advantage**
    Part D Prescription Drug Plan

*Also known as Original Medicare
** Usually includes Parts A, B, and D

What services are covered by each part?

Part A—Hospital stays and related services, such as skilled nursing facility stays and hospice care

Part B—Doctors’ services, outpatient care (such as X-rays and lab work), and home health care services

Part C—Includes everything offered in Parts A, B, and D, as well as ancillary services such as dental, vision, hearing, and wellness programs

Part D—Prescription Drug Coverage

Who is eligible to enroll in Medicare, and when?

Individuals are eligible to enroll in Medicare if they:

    –Are age 65 or older
–Are under age 65 with certain disabilities
–Are living with end-stage renal disease

Medicare-eligible individuals have a 7-month enrollment window: three months prior to their 65th birthday, the month they turn 65, and three months after they turn 65. You only enroll in Medicare once, but every year you have the opportunity to review your coverage and make any changes to your Part C or Part D coverage during the annual Open Enrollment period.

Whether you’re new to Medicare or are considering changes to your current coverage during the annual Open Enrollment period, we are here to help.
